Juvenile Lobster Monitoring

Download the Lobster Conservancy Newsletter, December 2006: Juvenile Lobster Monitoring is ongoing, fascinating and useful. Volunteers provide the legwork to search for, count, and measure the smallest lobsters you can even imagine to the ones you want to eatthat hide among the rocks along our secret shores. Sampling routines are monthly at the astronomically low tide and are accomplished by a little wading and quick handwork. This project is in cooperation with The Lobster Conservancy of Maine (see www.lobsters.org) and is part of a large network of volunteers from the Canadian provinces to our farthest southern station in the Gulf of Maine. The project helps to predict the robustness of the lobster stocks to help conservation and stewardship of this valuable and delightful resource. Monitoring takes place from the April to November tide cycles, and we are looking for additional volunteersit is fascinating, fun and challenging! JRWA joined this long term effort 4 years ago, and we would like to train new volunteers! Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
