On the heels of an controversial email accidentally sent from a member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to a Cape Cod activist stating that Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station staff are ‘overwhelmed’ running the plant , the Plymouth-based power plant is once again making the news.

The plant is currently shut down due valve leaks – a problem not new to Pilgrim. Leaks in three steam isolation valves were found. These valves are designed to prevent radioactivity from leaking to the surrounding environment if an accident were to occur. Similar valve problems occurred this past August.
