The Department of Energy (DOE) is working to develop a solution to storage of nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. It is developing a process to site facilities in collaboration with communities in the U.S., and earlier this year sought comments from the public on this “consent based” process.
In June 2016, JRWA submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on the consent based process. That same month we also participated in one of DOE’s public meetings in Boston on the issue.

DOE has summarized public input it received nation-wide in a draft report titled, “Designing a Consent-Based Siting Process: Summary of Public Input” →
The draft report is also available for public comment for 45 days, until October 30, 2016. Learn how to submit a comment to DOE →
After DOE considers comments received, it will issue a final summary report by December 2016.
