The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is holding a public hearing on March 21 to discuss the results of Pilgrim’s special inspections that took place in December and January.
The NRC will be discussing in detail the results of its major inspection at Pilgrim. We learned at the Jan. 31 hearing that Pilgrim will likely receive 10-15 additional violations as a result of the inspection. Despite this, the NRC also informed us that Pilgrim will refuel this spring and continue operating under a Column 4 ranking (meaning under continue enhanced federal oversight) due to Entergy’s failure to address and fix all of the problems at the plant.

Everyone within 50 miles of Pilgrim should be at this hearing to tell the NRC it is unacceptable to allow Pilgrim to continue limping along until 2019. The plant should close now; decommissioning and cleanup should begin immediately.
