On Tuesday, May 27, 2014 the Elm Street Bridge contractors added mulch and grass seed directly to the Jones River. Our underwater fish monitoring camera captured the mulching in progress (shown) as well as the extended runoff over the subsequent days. Excess nutrient loads and street runoff are already two of the top threats to Jones River water quality. At a time when the Town of Kingston is putting significant money and effort into improving the Jones River, this mulching blatantly and unnecessarily makes matters worse. We are expecting the Mass DOT will be quickly addressing the problem and cleaning up the mess.
