Today marked another milestone on the long-running Elm Street Dam removal project. For the final time, the superintendent of the Kingston Water Department, Matt Darsch, has begun the process of drawing down the impoundment above the dam by removing boards from the dam’s spillway.

Draining the impoundment heralds the start of construction for the dam removal. We will share details concerning the construction timeline after the pre-construction meeting taking place this coming Thursday.

As the impoundment drains we ask that any available members or friends of JRWA keep an eye out for wildlife that may be affected by the sudden change in the area, especially turtles – the road nearby is pretty treacherous for them . Please help turtles across the road, if you can do so safely. If you see an animal in distress, and you do not believe you can help it safely, then please call the Jones River Landing at (781)-585-2322 or email us at info@jonesriver.org with the details.
