The Jones River was dammed soon after the coming of the Pilgrims, most likely in the mid-1600’s. The rushing river was captured to power mills, build ships, and house families that built this nation. After nearly 400 years of industrial service, we are returning the river to its natural state to support depleted smelt, river herring, shad, eel, brown trout, native brook trout, and other impacted species.
