Esteemed New York jazz guitarist Dan Rose is once again returning to play at Jones River Landing, alongside local favorites Chris Rathbun and Gene Roma for another evening of soulful melodies.  We are excited to have them back at the Landing again as they always put on a great show.

This will be an indoor event, for better acoustics, with a $20 door fee.  Some food and snacks may be available but if you want something more substantial plan ahead and BYOB.

About the Musicians

Dan Rose

Born November 6, 1947 in Elmira, New York, Dan Rose moved to New York City at the age of 17 to be close to it all. In the later 1960’s he lived in San Francisco and studied with Jerry Hahn and John Reible and was influence by Barney Kessel, Tal Farlow, Kenny Burrell and Jim Hall.

Dan toured and recorded with Paul Bley 1973 and 1974. During which time he was introduced to the music of Carla Bley who became a major influence on his composition and musical concept.

During the 1970’s Dan was very active in the New York “Loft Jazz” scene.

In 1979 he composed and recorded “CLOSE OPPOSITES” released on the Alacra label. He then moved to Europe where he performed in clubs with his own band and as a sideman. In 1981 returned to New York. In 1992 composed and recorded “CONVERSATIONS” on ENJA RECORDS featuring Steve Swallow and John Betsch. In the fall of 92 moved to Paris for two years.

Dan was featured in the book, “Jazz Guitar On Record,” by Richard Hetrick.

From 1998 to 2005, Dan performed in and helped produce, “JAZZ AT JENNINGS,” an annual benefit concert held at Peter Jennings Bridgehampton home.

2015,’16 and ’17, performed in “JAZZ FOR JENNINGS” concerts.

From 1996-2001, Dan worked exclusively with Max Roach as producer and recording engineer.

Chris Rathbun

Chris Rathbun has enjoyed decades of bass playing from orchestra and chamber music to blues, free improvisation, be-bop, Bluegrass, Dixie-Land, swing, Broadway shows, cabaret, Klezmer, Latin and world music, jazz festivals from the Boston Globe Jazz Festival, to JazzIt in Bari, Italy.

Chris has performed with internationally recognized jazz artists, “Papa” Jo Jones, “Tiny” Grimes (guitarist with Art Tatum), Tom Lindsay (trumpet player on Coleman Hawkins’ quintessential recording of “Body and Soul”), Joe Marani (clarinet player with Louis Armstrong), Herb Pomeroy, “Sir Charles” Thompson (pianist with Charlie Parker), Benny Waters, Bob Wilber and Sabby Lewis.

His work includes pit orchestras of the major theaters in Boston and performances with stars; Ray Charles, Anna Maria Alberghetti, Rosemary Clooney, The Four Aces, The Four Lads, Marvin Hamlisch, Linda Hopkins, Al Martino, The Mills Brothers, Anthony Newley, Patti Page, John Raitt, Bobby Rydell, Yma Sumak, Roger Williams, and many more…

Gene Roma

Gene Roma, drummer and percussionist, has had a long career sharing the stage with many local and international performers.

After more than five decades, some of his credits include touring for 25 plus years with many Broadway shows, performances with great jazz artists like Count Basie, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Zoot Sims, Charlie Ventura, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, Herb Pomeroy…to name a few. Singers, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Jack Jones, Maureen McGovern, Thelma Houston, Aretha Franklin, Rebecca Paris and many others.

Classical performances with Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops and a memorable week with The Boston Symphony under the direction of Seiji Ozawa.

Most recently Gene and his wife, conductor Janet Glazener Roma, have returned from three consecutive tours in Asia, bringing Broadway shows to cities in China for the first time ever.
