This action alert comes from our friends at Toxics Action Center. Please take action, share, post – do what you can to help pass these bills at the State House. They are important to protect the economic interests of our state, particularly if Pilgrim is to shut down in near future.

Earlier this month, Governor Baker said he thought that Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station was safe even though the federal government had downgraded its safety rating and ranked it as one of the three most dangerous operating reactors in the country.

I was outraged, and asked you to write Governor Baker and Attorney General Healey if you felt the same. You responded in droves, and together we helped the Governor see he was wrong.[1]

Now, we need to turn up the pressure on our legislators. It’s time to close Pilgrim, and Entergy Corporation needs to be held responsible for the risks they’ve created through years of mismanagement.

In 2015 alone, Pilgrim has had three unplanned emergency shutdowns. Besides being unsafe, it’s been constantly offline.[2] The grid will be better off without it, and so will we.

Our elected officials have the opportunity this legislative session to protect the Commonwealth from nuclear disaster and from the extraordinary costs associated with Pilgrim’s inevitable closure. Join me in sending the message: close Pilgrim, and do it on Entergy’s dime.

Sincerely,

Sylvia Broude
Executive Director, Toxics Action Center Campaigns
