Herring Run Celebration

  • Jones River Landing Environmental Heritage Center 55 Landing Road Kingston, MA, 02364 United States (map)

As the herring counting season comes to a close, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of the dedicated volunteers who helped document a herring run the likes of which the Jones has not seen in living memory. More herring were counted over the Forge Pond fish ladder than were ever seen crossing at the former Elm Street counting site; and through the efforts of Mass DMF, the Town of Kingston and JRWA we also passed thousands of herring over the dam by netting them out of the spillway.

To celebrate this astounding event, we would like to invite you to Jones River Landing for an afternoon of live music, food and drink.

Harmonic Groove will be playing indoors, and the grills will be going outside. Beer will be available - some acquired from 42nd Parallel Brewing which recently opened up just upstream of Stony Brook near the train tracks on 3A.

You don’t have to have counted herring this year to attend, but we hope you will consider doing so in the future. The data submitted from this run will assuredly help fundraise for future restoration projects in the river, and we couldn’t do it without our dedicated volunteers and members.
